About This Lot
Robert Indiana, one of America's most important 20th century artists, is a seminal icon of Pop Art. By using distinctive imagery similar to that of commercial art, Indiana gradually moved toward what he called the creation of "sculptural poems." In the 1960s, the artist's Love print, which was originally a Christmas card for New York's Museum of Modern Art, seized the country as an emblem of the peace movement. Bridging together the use of bold colors and striking terminology, the artist grasped the culture of the times. In the 1990's Indiana revisited the composition while also introducing fresher colors. The present work's title refers to the healing properties of sunlight and incorporates this into the composition with the bright yellow border highlighting the now iconic print.
