About This Lot

Damien Hirst, perhaps the most famous member of the Young British Artists, rose to prominence through his ground-breaking sculptures and prints, which are known for challenging the boundaries between high and low culture and art and science. His "spot" prints and paintings, now instantly recognizable, have become an international sensation in the contemporary art world. Inspired by drug companies' scientific approach to human life, the spot paintings for Hirst espouse a scientific approach to painting. These pharmaceutical paintings, first exhibited in 1988, are Hirst's way of experimenting with endless arrangements of color.
