About This Lot
The present work was created to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Brooklyn Academy of Music- of which the artist served on the board of trustees- this print was published alongside the works of Jennifer Bartlett, Francesco Clemente, David Salle, Donald Sultan and Terry Winters. It is characteristic of the pop art style that Roy Lichtenstein pioneered through the 20th Century complete with its simple but bright coloration, mismatching lines and funky geometric shapes. Similar to his works that are part of the Imperfect series, this print showcases Lichtenstein's experiments with abstraction and geometric shapes. In each piece of the series, one or more of the shapes break outside its border and into the surrounding margins with crossing lines that never hit at the center. These visually stimulating, sharply dynamic works added new and complex ideas to the artist's oeuvre.
