Biography
Jean Cabut (French, 1938–2015), better known as Cabu, was a comic strip artist and cartoonist known for his work on the satirical publication Charlie Hebdo. Born in Châlons-en-Champagne, Cabu studied at the École Estienne in Paris, and published his first drawings in a local newspaper. During the Algerian War, he served in the army and continued to produced illustrations for the army magazine Bled and Paris Match.
In 1960, he co-founded the Hara-Kiri magazine. After it was banned by Charles de Gaulle’s administration in 1970, the magazine became Charlie Hebdo.
