About This Lot
Damien Hirst has become one of the most famous living British artists. The most influential member of a school of artists originating from Goldsmiths, University of London in the 1980s, Hirst has become a household name. His work focuses on the fundamental elements of life, including death and love, which he expresses in controversial sculptures, installations, paintings, and prints. In the present works, Wu Zetian H10-1, Nūr Jahān H10-2, Theodora H10-3, Suiko H10-4 and Taytu Betul H10-5 Hirst employs one of his signature motifs: butterflies. This set of five prints make up Hirst's The Empresses series, each design dedicated to one of history's great female rulers.
The Empresses series was comprised of NFT deeds with corresponding physical artworks. Released in 2022, buyers, upon purchasing the work, could choose an NFT deed or the physical artwork before a fixed deadline. NFT deeds can be used to redeem the physical artwork it was assigned to, up until February 2025. Once decided, the unkept copy, whether the NFT or the print is burnt by the artist. Note: these are the physical versions of the Empress series.
