About This Lot

Damien Hirst is one of the most famous living British artists. The most influential member of a school of artists originating from Goldsmiths, University of London in the 1980s, Hirst has become a household name. His work focuses on the fundamental elements of life, including death and love, which he expresses in controversial sculptures, installations, and paintings. In his series The Wonder of You, Hirst employs one of his signature motifs: butterflies. The butterflies in the present work from the series are rendered so that they seem to be fluttering across the piece over a rich orange background. The butterfly has wide significance as a symbol of love, regeneration, fortune, freedom, spirituality, and death.
