How do I use the Price Database to estimate the value of an artwork, or buy and sell artworks?
The Price Database is a tool for helping you make informed decisions when buying or selling an artwork. It provides easy and transparent price research from auction records dating back to 1985, allowing you to independently assess how much a work of art is worth.
The database contains over 17 million color-illustrated fine art, design, and decorative art auction results with complete lot descriptions. By viewing the prices of comparable lots and how they have performed at auction over time, you can confidently determine the value of an artwork yourself.

What is the difference between the Fine Art and Design and the Decorative Art databases?
The Fine Art and Design database includes fine art objects such as paintings, photographs, prints, and sculpture ranging from the Old Masters to present-day contemporary artists. The Decorative Art database contains antiques, antiquities, and collectibles.
Design objects can be found in both databases. In the Fine Art and Design database, users can conveniently search for post-19th century design items with an attributed artist, designer, or maker.
Please note that both databases only include items estimated at $500 and above.
Which subscription level is right for me?
The Price Database Fine Art and Design offers four different subscription levels for all types of art market research. If you are looking to complete only a few searches, we suggest the One-Day Pass or Individual Rollover. With the Expert or Appraiser level, you have continuous access to the database and have the freedom to choose when to use your searches throughout the year.
For bespoke corporate packages, please contact an artnet representative at accountmanagement@artnet.com.
The Price Database Decorative Art offers two subscription levels, each with access to unlimited searches. The Monthly subscription auto-renews every 30 days, while the Annual subscription offers continuous access year-round and auto-renews every 365 days. To upgrade your subscription, contact an artnet representative at support@artnet.com at any time.
What can I search for in the Price Database?
Our enhanced search and filter options mean you can now search without constraints—whether that's a specific artist, an auction house, a medium, a region, a nationality, or simply a keyword.
What is considered a search?
A search in the Price Database Fine Art and Design is when you enter all your search criteria and click "View First 100 Results" in the original Price Database or "Show results" in the new Price Database. Your initial search will display up to 100 results per page, and any time you click to view the next 100 results, it is considered another search.
All searches in the Price Database Decorative Art are unlimited.
How do I know which artists are included in the Price Database?
There are two ways to find out which artists are included in the Price Database.
If you do not yet have a subscription, visit the artist's homepage on artnet and scroll to see if “Auction Results” appears in the left-hand column under "Availability." If this option appears, then the artist is in the Price Database.
If you already have a subscription, you may enter the artist's name on the Price Database search screen and, if their name appears in a dropdown menu, then the artist is in the database.
Does the Price Database include lots from upcoming auctions?
Upcoming auctions are included in both databases. Search results by default display the most recent auction lots at the top of your results, but you also have the option to sort results by sale date, work date, or price.
I only need to complete a few searches. Do I still need to purchase a whole subscription?
We offer several flexible subscription options that can be canceled or upgraded at any time. For the Fine Art and Design database, you can start with the One-Day Pass or the Individual Rollover level. For the Price Database Decorative Art, the Monthly subscription offers 30 days of unlimited searches.
What does "rollover" in the Individual Rollover subscription mean?
The Individual Rollover subscription provides you with 10 searches per month to the Price Database Fine Art and Design. If, for example, you use four searches in one month, the remaining six searches will carry over to your next month's total searches. You can roll over a maximum of 10 unused searches each month.
